CT DJs, CT DJ, DJs In CT, Connecticut DJs, Connecticut Disc Jockey
When considering a DJ for your Connecticut Wedding reception, here are some great things to think about. Not all CT DJs are alike. Choosing DJs in CT based on their years of experience can be misleading as not all Connecticut DJs have the same skills or capabilities. If you took two CT DJs and gave them both the same music and equipment, the guests at the Connecticut wedding reception would not have the same experience. Oh, this is so difficult. When choosing a service oriented vendor such as a Connecticut Disc Jockey, you've got to look beyond the rhetoric.
There are already so many lists or questions that the wedding magazines and websites tell you that you should ask when you are interviewing potential disc jockeys for your wedding reception. The fact is – asking if they have a wireless microphone or if they belong to a trade association merely suggests that they might have read the same article you did. Just because they say that they have been a disc jockey for ten years doesn’t make them a great disc jockey.
What should you be asking them? Here are five questions will help you really get to know what type of disc jockey that they are.
- When was the last time you went to a training seminar, workshop or trade show? If they have never been or it’s been three or more years since the last time they did any training, then chances are they are not a great entertainer. When it comes to any profession, training and retraining are key factors to keep on top of your industry.
- When you DJ, is your computer playback software working on “AUTOPLAY” or do you mix songs manually? (Autoplay is fine for social hour, but to be a great DJ, you must know when to start/stop a song so it blends smoothly with the next song)
- Can I see a photograph of your setup as guests would see it? (This is where you will find if they are using self-promoting signs, and also if there are wires showing or if their setup will fit in or stand out with your wedding décor. Large light trussing, beat-up gear or grey carpeted facades are a dead giveaway of them not caring about the look of your wedding reception)
- What do you play during social hour and dinner? If they answer “I usually play…” then chances are they are not going to personalize your wedding to your tastes. They will probably be the kind of DJ that plays the same music at every event. Who wants the exact same wedding music? That would be terrible and cliché. They probably will not honor your NO-PLAY list of music because they think that their prescripted cheesy DJ skits will really make your party pop. After all, who doesn’t like getting dressed up in an Indian headgear and doing the YMCA?
- Do you have audio or video clips of a recent wedding that you’ve done? Listen to see if they refer to the bride and groom as “THE BRIDE AND GROOM” or by their names. If the disc jockey cannot be bothered to remember and use their names, the chances are they will not put much effort into your wedding. After all, exactly how much effort does it take to remember “Lily and Eric”? No audio or video clips available? Buyer beware!
Hiring entertainment on price alone will only guarantee that you get the cheapest disc jockey for your wedding. Not all disc jockeys are created alike and not all will work hard to make your wedding a success. Do you wants an average wedding or do you want something more? When it comes to your wedding; you are not getting your hair cut at Supercuts and you are not getting your food from McDonalds. Why get your entertainment from someone who does not take the effort to run their business like it is a business? At Rob Alberti’s Event Services, we offer many levels of entertainment to fit everyone’s budget and needs.

- Do they have photos or video clips from recent events? We Do
- Do they have online planning tools so you can listen to songs, create play and no-play lists to personalize your wedding music? We Do
- Do they provide you with a CD or audio clips of them as Master of Ceremony during a typical wedding introduction? We Do
- Do they have back up gear, back up DJs and offer a 100% money back guarantee? We Do
- Do they record your toasts, introductions and special moments over the microphone? We Do
- Do they offer custom event lighting options with the NEW 3.0 watt high output LEDs? We Do
- Do they have photos of recent events that they have provided lighting? We Do
- Do they offer you the convenience of paypal or major credit card for your retainer and final payment? We Do
- Do they allow you to listen to music online and create your own playlists? We Do
Once you compare the lack of information that other area Djs provide - you will plainly see the value that we provide to you. You and your guests will have the time of their life! Compare websites and literature – there is a difference in quality of service that will be clearly evident.

David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding – Rob Alberti’s Event Services, DJ & Lighting and CJC Lighting
Last year Rob Alberti's Event Services, DJ & Lighting paired up with The Log Cabin in Holyoke, MA, Durocher Florist, CJC Lighting for a night of event planning seminars. These wedding planning seminars were filled with ideas on how to make your wedding unique. Some of the speakers dedicated time to creating low-budget weddings, others like David Tutera from My Fair Wedding were more concentrated on higher end ideas.
CJC Lighting based out of West Springfield, MA provided the amber uplighting around the room and pin spot table centerpieces from Durocher Florist. (Rob Alberti's Event Services also have these capabilities) We provided the custom name in lights on the dance floor as well as the dance lighting for later on in the evening in conjunction with our DJ services and sound reinforcement abilities in the seminar room)
Here are some photos of this event:
Stay tuned - rumor has it that Peter Merry (THE BEST WEDDING RECEPTION...EVER! book author) will be at the November MassMutual bridal show. Peter Merry might even be doing a private conference for local brides and wedding vendors.

The Deal Is Too Good To Be True
How many times did your father tell you when you were a child – “if it sounds too good, it’s probably not true”. This rings true when shopping for entertainment at your wedding or next corporate event. Many less-than-reputable companies in the area will try and offer you a deal that just is too good. Buyer beware.
If they tell you that they are going to photograph your wedding FREE. Take a hard look at the equipment that they will be using for photography. Is it a point and shoot camera? Is a professional camera (with back-up) and external professional flash? Look at recent events that they have photographed. There are photos and then there are GREAT PHOTOGRAPHS. There is a DJ down in CT that boasts that they take 100’s of candid photographs at your reception and post them on-line for you and your guests FREE. The problem is that 99% of the photos are useless - they are poorly lit, out of focus, and framed incorrectly. The real question is - who is paying attention to DJing while they are taking 100’s of photos?
We will take about a dozen photographs (most prior to guest arrival) for use on our blog, but we never would walk away from our DJ console in the middle of your dance with your father so that we can climb a set of stairs to get a better shot of you on the dance floor. What if something goes wrong? Your DJ is not even anywhere near his equipment. This is just plain irresponsible.
The same goes for offering FREE VIDEOGRAPHY. Again, who is pacing the event and acting as your Master of Ceremony if they are too busy with the video camera in their face? Something just isn’t right here. One of my DJs went to Ireland the other year for a good friend’s wedding as a guest. His friend hired this guy as their DJ – he also was their photographer and videographer. That guy ran back and forth taking pictures, lining up the video camera and mixing songs. He did not do anyone of those jobs well and it clearly showed. What a disaster.
There are other DJs that bring in plasma screen TVs (sometimes as many as 4!) and place them on this huge contraption with their business logo displayed – can you say UGLY! I’ve never seen this on shows like “Platinum Weddings” or “My Fair Wedding with David Tutera”. It’s just tacky. On these shows, their lighting budget can sometimes EXCEED $10,000. Lighting is a time consuming and expensive endeavor. (We just expanded our lighting services and had to purchase $2,000 just in cabling – that doesn’t even count the ACTUAL lighting cost). So, if your DJ is offering it for FREE – it must not be worth much and must pale in comparison to what lighting should look like.
Most of the time when we are providing music and microphones for your outdoor wedding ceremony and DJ for your reception, we will bring an assistant just to help us through the logistics of having multiple setups. (we would never tear down your ceremony system and rush inside to setup the same gear for your reception – we want everything to flow smoothly) When we provide both DJ and event lighting –again, there is someone there who is responsible for lighting so that your DJ can concentrate on his job as your Master of Ceremony.
With bridal show season almost upon us – beware of DJ’s offering too many services without charging for them – if it’s free, it’s probably not worth much. Remember your father’s words – take a serious look at what you are getting before you sign anything. Ask to see actual photographs of equipment, recent events or events at your venue. If their website looks like they have not updated it in 10 years – just walk away. Happy wedding planning!

How To Light Your Wedding Reception Venue
We've all seen "Platinum Weddings" and "My Fair Wedding" with David Tutera. The wedding receptions that are captured for these TV shows are stunning. Although you may not have the $300,000 wedding budgets that these shows portray, you can still make your reception amazing with the use of lighting.
There are a few things to consider when lighting your wedding reception venue. Lighting can be broken down into a couple key elements. First, you have the uplighting or wall wash. Think of that as the background of a photo. Then, you have your monogram gobo projection or "name in lights". Then there are pin spots to highlight key elements like table centerpieces, your wedding cake or your sweetheart table. You top it all off with a dance floor or ceiling wash and patterned or "texture" lighting.
Examples of Wash Lighting or Uplighitng (Prices starting around $600)
Here are examples of monogram lights or "custom name in lights" gobo projections (Priced around $250):
You can pinspot table centerpieces (Pricing around $30 per table):
Add in some texture lighting on the ceiling or dance floor or even on the airwall (Prices starting around $300):
By using each of these elements, you keep the room well lit and eliminate dark areas in your reception hall. With lighting you can choose to keep your lighting static (or unchanged) throughout the event or for a little more money can have your lighting shift over time to different color settings. Maybe it's teal for dinner, red for dancing and amber for cocktail hour.

New Architectural Up-lighting and Lightscape Possibilities
Lighting has become such a large part of most weddings thanks to TV shows such as Platinum Weddings and My Fair Wedding with David Tutera. Lighting can take a boring reception hall and turn it into a masterpiece.
We offer both full wireless control LED wash lighting and traditional static/single color (Halogen Par Cans). This allows us to fit into most client's budgets and still provide a great visual effect for your wedding.
We can even pin spot each table at your wedding to highlight the centerpiece and really upscale the entire wedding experience for you.
