A Jubilee Event: Cameron + Josh’s Wedding at The Wadsworth Mansion, Middletown Connecticut
A beautiful summers afternoon was the setting at The Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown, Connecticut for Cameron and Josh’s classic wedding. Surrounded by 100 of their nearest and dearest, they exchanged heartfelt vows on the great lawn and danced the night away under a beautiful Sperry Tent.
Cameron and Josh chose simple shades of white, blush pink and charcoal. In their pursuit for wedding decor, they amassed an impressive collection of unique milk glass pieces that Elisabeth from BLUSH arranged peonies and large garden roses in.Gourmet Galley served up a delicious evening of vegetarian delights as guests dined on lasagna and pappardelle pasta. Yum!
Many thanks to the talented Charlotte Jenks Lewis, who made it nearly impossible to complete this blog post because I couldn’t pair down her images into a short list of favorites. Enjoy!

The Waveny House in New Canaan, CT – Charmaine & Emanuel’s Wedding Reception
The old world charm of The Waveney House in New Canaan, CT was the backdrop for Charmaine & Emanuel's wedding day activities. All week - it looked like rain. I think I checked in 2 or 3x to see what the rain plans were. Someone was looking over them and the weather cleared for their Sunday wedding.
The ceremony was held in the sunken garden right nearby. Cocktails were held out on the patio. The mansion was used only for the meal service. When the meals were done - people flocked to the patio and danced under the stars all night long.
We provided ceremony microphones, cocktails hour music, dinner music and dancing as well as Master of Ceremony services and our custom lighting both inside and out of The Waveney House. Check out some of our photos. Notice how you can see the color on the outside of the building even before the sun sets!

The Log Cabin in Holyoke MA – Southampton Room with Corryn & David
Corryn & David had their ceremony INDOORS due to rain. You should have heard this 13 year old kid play the bagpipes. Amazing.
So much for that beautiful view that The Log Cabin boasts. The rain never let up for their social hour - so they were inside for that as well. For dinner, Corryn & David were heavily involved in the music selection - it was 80's Hairband Ballands! So cool. Our custom love story introduction was a big hit as I told their guests of how they met and of their escapades.

Sandy & Mike celebrated their wedding Jonathan Edwards style. Their ceremony was held surrounded by the vineyard. With their Celebrant, Mary Coburn - they exchanged vows as Mary related their love story to us.

Things You Can Learn From “Four Weddings” To Make Your Wedding Day Memorable
Have you ever watched that reality TV show called “Four Weddings” on TLC? If you watch enough of them, you really can get a sense of what is important and what is not at a wedding. Having a bigger budget is not always the way to guarantee a bride wins the honeymoon. Spending your wedding budget wisely and paying attention to the flow of the day is really what makes a wedding GREAT.
Here are some of my observations from watching this wedding TV show.
The Ceremony:
- Make sure everyone can hear you exchange your vows- watch out for distracting surroundings and have someone professionally microphone the ceremony.
- Keep it short – but not too short (15-30 minutes)
- Make it personal – no one wants to hear a generic exchange of “I Do’s”
- Be on time. If you are late starting the ceremony – it will impact your entire day’s plans.
- Dress up your ceremony site – give it that “wow” factor
- Having your ceremony outside? Have backup plans in case of bad weather. Do not chance it – if there is a chance of rain – just fall back to your rain plans. The same goes for high temperatures, low temperatures, extreme humidity and wind. Do not chance it. Plan around it.
- No one likes random people watching the ceremony- keep it private
The Cocktail Hour:
- People love a change in scenery between the ceremony, cocktails and dinner.
- Make sure you have enough space – do not overcrowd your guests.
- Give your guests places to sit and relax
- Verify that there will be enough bartenders on duty. (1 for every 50 guests)
- Keep it upbeat and entertaining – set the tone for the rest of the event during your cocktail hour.
- Food. Food. Food. Make sure there is enough for your guests and give them more choice than just cheese and crackers
The Venue and Meal:
- Give your guests options for meal choice.
- Most people hate buffet lines – but “station meals” are OK
- Do not drag out the meal and bore your guests.
- Keep toasts SHORT as to not impact dancing time. Try to have them completed by end of dinner.
- Older guests can be volume conscious – keep volume appropriate so people can talk and mingle.
- Air conditioning should be set so room is cool enough so people can dance without passing out due to heatstroke.
- Make your event flow – your entertainment and wedding planners can help you with this. Do not listen to your venue – they are concerned with food service and not the flow of your party.
- Pay attention to “reception aerobics” – you do not want your guests standing up, going over here then back to their seats then standing back up, etc. Make activities make sense.
- Ever been to an event where there were lines for the bathrooms? You should plan for about 1 stall for every 25 guests.
Dancing:
- No one wants to wait 3 or 4 hours before dancing starts.
- Pace the festivities so you do not bore guests and you do not do everything all in one lump (people only have about a 10 minute attention span)
- Personalize your entertainment and be involved
- No one likes it when the bride and groom are missing during the reception – keep group photos to a minimum during this time
- Once dancing starts – do not interrupt it – not for speeches or desert stations
- Dim the lights and set the mood for dancing
- Create memorable moments with your entertainment (special send off, flash mob, highlight friends with special songs)
- Everyone loves a photo booth
- Nothing kills the party mood like a bad DJ

Modern Morris – Style Me Pretty
Modern Morris Winivan Wedding from Datura + JAGstudios
Having about the blackest thumb one can have, I am always so very, very impressed with floral design. I swear it’s magic – what these designers can do. This Connecticut wedding from Datura – A Modern Garden, brings me to another level of floral-awe with it’s completely different, completely cool designs. And I suppose Datura HAD to bring it to the table, because the rest of this love fest? Well, let’s just say it’s amazing, and that’s an understatement. The glamour, the style, the ambiance, the ring bearer – every single little detail captured by JAGstudios has got me giddy with the cool-ness factor. Can one be giddy over cool? I guess I should play it off an say, I’m down with the cool-ness factor. But I just can’t help it. I love this wedding. Click here for the full image gallery.

We selected the beautiful and breathtaking Winvian property in Morris, CT to be the site of our wedding on June 11, 2011.
The style of our wedding was whimsical, romantic, and with a touch of elegance. We couldn’t have asked for a more talented team of vendors to help craft our perfect wedding.
Our florist did an amazing job of using flowers that were in season and local to the surroundings. The centerpieces were all unique works of art that mirrored our color palette and became a great conversation piece for our guests
Our wedding cake was the best cake we ever ate. It was a chocolate cake with hazelnut and raspberry filling with handcrafted edible orchids running down the side of the cake.
The chef at the Winvian made a fabulous selection of using organic and seasonal ingredients form their garden to create wonderful food for our guests.
The color palette for the wedding was to use earth tones colors with bursts of yellow, blue and purple to compliment the rustic charm of the Gordon Brown House. We added pin spot lighting to the tables, up lighting to the barn house to attain a romantic mood.
We had so many wonderful moments from of our wedding. One moment was hearing the raindrops against the roof of the tent during the exchange our vows. The sound was so peaceful and calming to us. Another favorite moment was our first dance to Andrea Bocelli & Celine Dion’s “The Prayer.”
Our wedding day was filled with love, unity and spirituality. Above all, we could not have got married without the support and love from both our family and friends. For that we are truly thankful and blessed.
